COSTUME SUMMARY

I've always wanted to recreate Serenity's white gown ever since I started watching Sailor moon when I was young. I finally brought my dream into reality when I created this costume over the summer of 2022. I did a lot of research on all the different versions of her gown and decided to combine elements that I liked from multiple styles to create something unique to my style. The base of the dress is a separate corseted bodice with grommet closure in the back and spiral steel boning, and a multi-layered chiffon skirt with a fishing line rolled hem. The bow in the back is also detachable for easy transportation.

After playing with trims and various methods to create the detailing on her bodice, I ultimately decided to hand bead the entirety of all the gold elements, and combine a mixture of hand beading and trims for the white components. For the circle neckline I embroidered circles with my machine so all the shapes would be symmetrical and would have a clean finished edge. I used a couple of fill bead techniques and a rope pattern technique for the exterior border. There are a total of 13 circles along the top and each one is identical! It took me about two weeks to bead just the circles. For the "loops" across the bust they were beaded in the same way, and finished with a row of crystals along the top edge. I played with a lot of different combinations of trims and beads for the rest of the bodice, which may have been the most difficult part of the costume!
