COSTUME SUMMARY
To say this costume was last minute would be an understatement! I decided to create this costume only about a week before the event I would wear it to. Who knew that it would quickly become a fan-favorite look of mine?!
This costume starts out simple enough with a long curved maxi dress with a dramatic front open slit and three-quarter sleeves. The dress is made of beautiful red stretch sequin mesh fabric and lined in matching red glitter stretch spandex. The glitter of the lining shimmers through the weave of the sequin mesh, making for a really beautiful texture and depth! I partnered with my friend Magda to create the lace front wig, made by removing all of the interior wefts from the center of the wig, and sewing in a rigid cone-shaped felt core to build the “ice cream cone” shape on top of. The removed wefts were then glued to the foam cone and then styled and shaped into curls. I finished off the look with some purchased fairy wings, magic wand, earrings, and glasses!
To make things EVEN more last minute, two days before the event my husband decided to step in a Lord Farquaad! We put together his costume out of materials I already had on had and had to quickly source a pair of yellow tights, black gloves, and his boots. The tunic features trimming details and large puff sleeves that were lined in tulle to retain their shape. I created a removable velvet cape, added trimmings to the gloves, and created a hat out of matching velvet.
This may be one of the most fun costumes to wear. My husband and I always have such a good time wearing these and interacting with people we see at conventions. It is one costume that will be my go-to for a comfortable but effective costume!
