COSTUME SUMMARY

Shampoo is a character from one of my very first manga, Ranma ½! I’ve loved this story and character for nearly two decades, so it is about time that I created one of her outfits! This costume was very simple to make and took about a weekend to complete. I started with a basic bodice block pattern with waist and bust darts that I drafted for a different costume. I re-patterned matching cap sleeves (because the previous pattern had puff sleeves), and paired it with a seamed pencil skirt pattern that I also used on a previous project. The dress is made from a red brocade that shredded and frayed very easily, so I lined the entire dress and took great care to reinforce all of the seams. The dress is trimmed with bias tape that I made out out gold dupioni silk that I had leftover from another project, and finished with some faux frog closures on the neck area. It is a very simple costume but I am proud of the care I took to make it a well constructed garment and how well it fits me and curves to my body while looking tight-fitting but being comfortable enough to wear all day.
