COSTUME SUMMARY

This costume was such a joy to make! Based on Noflutter's original design of Sailor Cosmos as a Fairy, this costume consists of many bright and colorful fabrics and embellishments. The bodice is made of rainbow gradient lame with yellow chiffon sleeve inlays and spiral cut sleeve flounces. The detachable collar is made with gold-tipped white feathers glued onto an interfaced base that snaps into the neckline of the bodice. The waist corset is spiral steel boned and fully lined. I used a mixture of iron on and sew on gold applique, lace, trims, rhinestone chain, and flower embellishments. The skirt is made of many spiral cut flounces, sewn into a waistband with snap closure. The cape is the biggest one I've made yet! It is approximately 95" long and has a hand-sewn gold lace trim on the hem and around the connection point to the collar. The boots and hair accessories were my favorite part to make! I cut the boots to have an angled side and then bound the edge in gold bias tape. The embellishments are gold sequin applique, flowers, beads, and rhinestones. The wings were challenging at first, but made significantly easier with the use of my Cricut cutting machine. I used Noflutter's design and created an outline for each of the wing panels, and then cut the pieces out to scale on the Cricut out of metallic silver poster board. Then they have a layer of iridescent cellophane on top, then sandwiched between two layers of glossy heat vinyl. Inside the wigs are bend pieces of silver wire which extend down into the back of the corset. The prop staff is made of a wooden dowel that separates into three sections, wooden balls, and clear plastic separating ornaments with more iridescent cellophane inside and wing details made of glitter craft foam and thick iridescent vinyl.

It was really fun getting to experiment with some new techniques for this costume, and being able to have a lot of creative freedom with the design. I love how it is such a fantasy piece, and the rainbow colors against all the white makes me so happy!
